Lower Heath Farm: Delivering a High-Capacity Solar & Storage System with Advanced DC-Coupling
Immersa partnered with Bavenhill to support the delivery of a large-scale solar and battery storage system at Lower Heath Farm. As one of Bavenhill's long-standing customers, the project focused on delivering a robust and future-ready energy solution that could significantly reduce reliance on grid electricity. The scheme combines a 636kWp ground-mounted solar installation with a containerised 940kWh battery energy storage system, designed to operate efficiently within site constraints while maximising on-site energy usage.

Challenge
The project faced grid connection limitations, which restricted how much solar generation could be exported. Without a battery solution, this would have limited the overall performance and commercial value of the system. The challenge was to: maximise utilisation of a large solar array; overcome grid connection constraints without reducing system size; deliver a high-capacity solution that remained efficient and scalable; and integrate multiple system components seamlessly. This required a more advanced approach to system design, particularly through the use of DC-coupling.
Approach
- Supplying the AlphaESS TB250 containerised BESS (940kWh)
- Supporting system configuration for DC-coupled solar integration
- Providing flexibility to adapt to project-specific installation requirements
- Offering technical support to ensure compatibility across system components

Solution
The completed system integrates a large-scale solar array with battery storage, using DC-coupling to maximise efficiency and overcome grid constraints. A portion of solar generation is DC-coupled into the battery system, allowing excess energy to be captured and stored rather than exported. The remaining solar capacity is connected via AC-string inverters, ensuring full utilisation of the system. This hybrid approach enables the site to maintain a large solar installation while remaining compliant with grid connection limits. The system is also connected to the Alpha Cloud platform, providing a centralised point for monitoring and ongoing management.
Results & Impact
- Overcame grid constraints without reducing solar PV size
- Increased on-site utilisation of renewable generation
- Delivered a high-capacity, future-ready energy solution
- Enabled a more advanced system configuration than standard installations
- Demonstrated strong collaboration between Immersa and Bavenhill
Value Delivered
- This project highlights Immersa's ability to support partners on more complex, high-capacity renewable energy schemes. By providing the battery solution and technical expertise, we enabled Bavenhill to deliver a system that goes beyond standard solar installation, incorporating advanced DC-coupling to unlock greater performance.
- It also reinforces Immersa's flexible approach to partnerships, supporting installers across design, supply and technical integration depending on project needs.
